Welcome to the April E-newsletter.

NSW Seniors Card would like to congratulate Manfred Mayer, winner of the Norfolk Island holiday competition, and Darlene Douglass, winner of the Indian Pacific holiday competition both recently offered by NSW Seniors Card. We would like to wish them both a fabulous holiday and would like to thank all  members who entered the competitions.

New Seniors Card Business Partners  

New Business Partners constantly join the Seniors Card program offering great discounts and offers to members. In the month of March, 22 new businesses joined, offering discounted products and services to NSW Seniors Card members ranging from: UK special interest DVD's to vehicle tinting and mowing services.

Seniors Days at the Easter Show  

The Sydney Royal Easter Show opens on Thursday, April 9th with a host of great entertainment on offer for the whole family. Seniors are especially well catered for on Seniors Days at the Show on Tuesday 14 & Wednesday 15 April, sponsored by NSW Seniors Card. There's free tea & coffee and promotional bags for members who visit the Seniors Card stand, along with some great competition prizes. Bring your grandkids along on Seniors Days and receive FREE Carnival rides when accompanied by a paying child.    Read more

Physical activity recommendations for seniors  

For the first time, the Australian Government has developed physical activity recommendations specifically for older Australians. Under the new recommendations, older Australians are urged to accumulate at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity a day, as a slight increase in activity can make a difference to a person’s overall health and well being. The recommendations are part of the Australian Government’s plan to promote healthy and positive ageing.

Historical Society events April - June  

The Royal Australian Historical Society is offering a range of talks, conferences, lectures, walks, morning tea's and seminars on subjects ranging from British migrant liners and the £10 poms, to writing and recording family history.

$2.50 bus travel in rural and regional NSW  

From the 1st January 2009 the Regional Excursion Daily (RED) bus ticket became available for purchase by NSW Seniors Card holders and Pensioner Card holders. The ticket provides all day travel for $2.50 on commercial private bus services operating outside of the Sydney Metropolitan/Outer Metropolitan networks or the CountryLink network.

Hunter Valley Shed Cluster Group  

The Hunter Valley Shed Cluster Group is a great place for men to get together for personal benefit and community benefit. Group activities are diverse and range from: wood and metal work, restoring furniture and push bikes, to recycling computers and gardening. There are eight member shed locations scattered throughout the Hunter Valley, each offering different activities but with a common community-focused goal. The Group is proudly funded by the Department of Ageing, Disability & Home Care and member sheds.
