High blood pressure linked to Alzheimers

Treating high blood pressure may reduce the incidence of dementia by up to 50 per cent, according to a new scientific review of international research. The review draws a significant medical link between “a healthy heart and a healthy brain”.

Charles Darwin: Voyage & ideas that shook the world  

We all know travel broadens our vision and stimulates our thinking, but what sort of voyage was it that inspired Charles Darwin to construct his theory of evolution that shook the beliefs of the 19th Century to its core? New information centre on reverse mortgages  

The National Information Centre on Retirement Investments Inc (NICRI) is well known for providing consumers with information on investments, retirement income streams, superannuation and financial planning. From 2 February 2009 NICRI is trialing a new service called The Equity Release/Reverse Mortgage Information Service which provides information to prospective equity release and reverse mortgage applicants.   Read more

Seniors First, a Seniors Card Business Partner and financial broker for people over 55, has published the second edition of its report, Reverse Mortgage Secrets. This is now available for FREE download from their website. To celebrate Seniors Week, seniors who download the free guide during March or April 2009 go in the draw to win one of five holiday packages of up to 14 nights FREE holiday accommodation.

Funeral information and legislation  

The Office of Fair Trading has produced a new brochure on funerals in response to recent legislation changes. From 1 February 2009 funeral directors are now required to provide an itemised quote on a basic funeral option if they offer one. If no basic funeral is offered funeral directors must still provide a written itemised quote and after any funeral service is completed they must provide an itemised invoice or statement. The new brochure highlights changes to the law and is useful for anyone organising a funeral.  Read more
